Council remembers Executive Committee member Judy Davis

judy-davisNotable Midlands activist and philanthropist Judy Davis passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, following an extended illness.

Davis joined the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness’ Executive Committee in September and was voted Education and Workforce Task Force co-chair.

“Judy was a mentor, confidante, and role model to many of us in the Midlands and across the state,” said Council President and CEO Ann Marie Stieritz. “I was fortunate to be among those who served with her in the community and learned from her in both my professional and personal life.”

Davis had worked for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina as executive vice president and chief legal officer for more than 20 years. In addition to serving on the Council’s Executive Committee, Davis served on the board of numerous community organizations, including the S.C. Governor’s School of Science and Mathematics, EngenuitySC, SC Launch, United Way of the Midlands, Columbia College, Palmetto Conservation Foundation and the Central Community Foundation.

Davis was honored with a number of community awards, including the United Way of the Midlands’ 2014 Humanitarian of the Year, 2012 National Alliance on Mental Illness Award, 2011 Insurance Networking News Award and 2011 EngenuitySC Vision Award.

Davis leaves behind her husband, Jerry, their two dogs, a brother and her parents.
